Five Scholarships Available to High School Seniors
The Carteret-Craven Electric Foundation will award five scholarships to high school seniors heading to college in the fall of 2018. One scholarship each will be awarded for a student at East Carteret, West Carteret, Croatan and Havelock high schools. The fifth scholarship will be awarded to the next highest ranked applicant from those schools or other schools, such as Jones Senior, Gramercy, Early College EAST or home schools.
The scholarship program is open to students who live in a home that gets electricity from Carteret-Craven Electric Cooperative. To qualify, the student must be a high school senior in the current graduating class and must be accepted at a 2-year community/technical college or 4-year college or university. The judges will weigh the following in determining the scholarship winners: need, 50 percent; academic achievement, 25 percent; and extracurricular activities, 25 percent.
“Besides providing financial support, earning a scholarship helps in other ways, such as giving you recognition for your accomplishments and confidence to pursue your college and life goals,” said CCEC Communications Director Lisa Galizia. “A scholarship can also distinguish your achievements, setting you apart from your peers and motivating you to challenge yourself even more. Finally, scholarships look good on college applications, and later, your career resume.”
Deadline for applications is March 5, 2018. Applications also are available from the counselors' offices at each school and at our offices at 450 McCotter Blvd. in Havelock and 1300 Highway 24 West, Newport.
